Meet Michael Cassino — Steelers Treasurer, Former Doncaster Doncats Player & Club Volunteer

Meet Our Treasurer | Park Orchards Steelers

Behind every community club is a group of volunteers quietly helping keep things running… and for the Steelers, one of those people is our Treasurer, Michael Cassino.

Michael and his family have been part of the Steelers community for 6 years, with Michael volunteering as Treasurer for the past 4 years. Like so many of our committee members, it all started with his kids pulling on a Steelers jersey and a simple desire to give back to a local club that means a lot to their family.

A former Doncaster Doncats player and lifelong basketball fan, Michael still gets out for the occasional game when he can. His all-time favourite player? Michael Jordan of course… and as a fan of the game, Game 6 of the 1998 NBA Finals still sits at the top of the list.

But these days, his favourite basketball memories come from the sidelines, watching both of his kids learn the game, grow in confidence and develop a genuine love for basketball and community sport.

When he’s not balancing spreadsheets or cheering courtside, you’ll probably find him out mountain biking. And if the Steelers had a soundtrack for Michael? Pink Floyd’s Money seemed a little too fitting for the Treasurer role

Coffee order? Latte followed by a short black. Serious business.

What Michael loves most about the Steelers is what many of us do too - the friendships created, the families involved and the strong sense of community around the club. His hope for the future is simple; continue growing our young member base and see even more kids enjoying the game of basketball.

And his advice for young players starting out?“Focus on the basics, make friends and have fun.”

Thanks Michael for everything you do behind the scenes for our club and community. Volunteers like you help make the Steelers what it is
